Apprentice jockey Charlie O'Dwyer registered a first winner for trainer Henry De Bromhead at Dundalk today as Annexation overcame trouble in-running to win the Story Of Dundalk Apprentice Rated Race.
The French-bred five year old was shuffled back to rear-division at halfway and while also meeting traffic problems with a furlong to race, quickened well to lead near the line and beat Hightown Heights by half a length.
O'Dwyer's ex-jockey father Conor O'Dwyer was unsuccessful on his only ride for De Bromhead and today's winning rider reported “I'm thrilled to get it especially for Mr De Bromhead as I ride out there two days a week. That's my third winner.
O'Dwyer, who has had five recent hurdle rides, added “he's an honest beast and I've no doubt he should be able to do it again.
“Everything fell into place beautifully for him, they went a lovely even gallop and all the gaps came when we needed them. It couldn't have worked out any better.”
