Harry Des Ongrais showed the benefit of his chasing debut at Fairyhouse last month, appreciating the step up to 2m4f to land the QuinnBet Beginners Chase at Gowran.

The point-to-point winner was absent for nearly two years before that Fairyhouse run when keeping on into fifth over 2m1f and was sent off an 8/1 chance here against a strong four-pronged challenge from the Willie Mullins yard.

The eight-year-old grey gelding made headway between horses to land in front over the last and kept on strongly on the run-in for Rachael Blackmore to beat Lombron by four and a quarter lengths.

The 11/10 favourite Blizzard Of Oz could only keep on at one pace a neck further back in third.

De Bromhead said, "“That was a nice one, I’m delighted with that. We hoped he’d run well and Rachael was brilliant on him. It’s great to get it for Kenny (Haughey, owner).

“He ran well on his first run when two miles was probably a bit sharp for him. The step up in trip suited him, he saw it out well and picked up well.

“We’ll look for a novice race now, today was on our mind so we had a good go here and it’s great to get it.”
