Aird (11/5) came good at her 12th career attempt at Dundalk today, landing the DundalkStadium.com Maiden for jockey Billy Lee, trainer Henry De Bromhead and owner Peter Fitzgerald.
The five-year-old mare was beaten 78 lengths when trying hurdles for the first time at Fairyhouse last month but had previously been placed three times on the Flat and today scored readily when beating dual bumper winner Friary Road by 4.5 lengths.
Afterwards jockey Lee said "I just thought maybe the last run here wasn't as strong as maybe when I was second on her here.
"I thought if she came back to when I was second on her, she would take a bit of beating.
"When they steadied down the back, I was just able to get a nice breather into her and she relaxed so well.
"I thought I was going to have a bit more pace than say some of the jumpers. She has picked up well and she has got the job done, and it is a nice winning bracket for her."
